When to install
Have a lot of trees causing your gutters to build up with leaves? It's best to install gutter guards on areas that are highly populated with trees. It doesn't take but a few leaves to collect at the downspout drain, causing a backup during the next rain. We do not install cheap guards that simply fall into the gutter making matters worse. Just because you have gutter guards installed on the gutters, doesn't mean there won't be a time when they will still need to be cleaned. Dirt runoff from your roof accumulates over time in the bottom of your gutters. If left for long duration of time, enough dirt can be trapped in the gutters allowing grass to grow out of them.
Installing the right gutter guards is important. Gutter guards that completely cover the gutter and only have a small opening in the front to allow water to enter, will need to be completely removed if the gutters ever need to be cleaned. Installing a gutter guard where the bottom of the gutter is still visible, while still providing protection from large debris is ideal. These gutter guards do not need to be removed to clean the mud from the gutters. Gutters have grass growing out of them?
Looking for a general cleaning? Even if you don't have any trees around your house, you still need to clean your gutters. Your gutters could be filled with as much as 2 inches of roofing granules and dirt that washes down into your gutters. This is even more important if you have recently had a new roof installed.
Having your rain gutters clean is an important part of home maintenance. Gutters should be cleaned once a year before the rain season. If you home is populated with a lot of trees, this should be done twice a year. It's important to have any trees that overhang onto the roof cut back to reduce the leaf build up. Gutters that are clogged can fill with water in a matter of minutes. This can cause water to overflow and even damage the rain gutter.
Gutter Cleaning Process
We have all seen the commercial where the home owner is hanging from a ladder about to fall, trying to remove leaves and mud with his hands. That's not quite how a professional gutter company cleans rain gutters. First thing is getting all the way up on the roof. Then walking around the edge of the roof with a large leaf blower gets rid of most leaves and sticks. Followed by a flush with the garden hose to clean out any mud or roof granules and to make sure downspouts are clear.
